We had been repeatedly reminded that if we were ever in the area of St. Germain, we were to stop in for breakfast at a very small venue in town. Well, we were there recently (late May of 2015) and stopped in to the Wolf Pack Café for breakfast. I can’t say enough good things about the experience there!
A Smiling Waitress and a Bubbly “Good Morning”
It was just before 9:00 am and the parking lot seemed fairly empty, considering it was a Saturday morning. Walking through the door however, told a different story. But for a lone seat, the seven stools at the counter were full, as were most of the roughly ten tables in the dining room. We waited – as the sign near the door asked – to be seated, and were quickly asked to come up near the front to one of the last two open tables.
The place was abuzz with about a half dozen waitresses who busily maneuvered their way amongst the tables delivering coffee, waters and breakfasts to the hungry diners in the well-lit and clean little diner. We were seated at the table for no more than a minute when a smiling waitress approached with a bubbly “good morning” and handed us menus, told us of the morning’s specials and asked if we’d like coffee.
Weekend Special: Pan-Fried Perch
There were numerous interesting breakfast choices on the menu, such as a Tenderloin Beef Tip Omelet – one of many “Chef’s Choice” items – a Hash Brown Sandwich, Banana Nut Bread French Toast, Smoked Beef Brisket and a Brat Patty. The Corned Beef Hash was tempting, but I opted for the Weekend Special: Pan-Fried Perch, served with farm fresh eggs, potatoes & toast. Lauren selected Eggs Benedict – the traditional pair of English Muffins topped with poached eggs, ham & hollandaise sauce.
Although the Benedict was served with a bit much Hollandaise, both breakfasts were excellent. The portions were huge! My perch (a nice-sized pair of fillets) was sautéed as perfectly as any as I have ever had and the flavor was outstanding! Kudos to the chef at Wolf Pack Café for restoring my faith that there are still a few out there with the ability to cook fish the way they are supposed to be cooked!
Waiting Line Out the Door
The restaurant provided excellent service, perfectly-cooked breakfasts and happy faces on diners all around the restaurant. There was also a waiting line out the door by the time we had paid our check. Definitely Five-Zin food and service at this excellent venue, and I only wish this café was closer to home. But I can guarantee that whenever we return to the St. Germain area, the Wolf Pack Café will be at the top of our “gotta go there for breakfast” places… and likely lunch as well, as their lunch menu looked mighty tempting!
The Wolf Pack Cafe is located at 426 Highway 70 E in St Germain, WI. They’re open for breakfast & lunch!
